CCF passing out
The cadets stepped up this week showing just how far they have come since they started about a year ago. They have spent the last couple of weeks working hard to improve their drill ready for their passing out parade. It is with real pride thatMr Brett was able to present most of the Cadets, their brassards and First Class Badges. It is a mark of their dedication that they have achieved all the elements of a First Class cadet. This will help them all in the future with improved self discipline, team work and that sense of pride that comes with knowing that they have achieved a milestone in the cadet world.
Thirty-one Year 9 students enjoyed a taster session this week and are all looking forward to starting their journey after Christmas. Please contact the cadet team if you want to get involved in this flourishing cadet unit. I would like to say thank you to the team of staff who have made this possible.
TA Christmas Card
This year’s TA Christmas card was designed by Year 13 student Klaudia Krupska. This is a really imaginative photograph that captures the school and Christmas spirit perfectly. Thank you, Klaudia.
Y12 Music Composition
We are delighted with the progress our Y12 music students have made since beginning the course in September, in particular, full-time music student, Eloise Simpson. I regularly like to drop into the students’ music lessons and listen to the brilliant performances they put on and I am always particularly impressed when I hear work the students have written themselves. This piece, composed by Eloise, is called Love & Hate and forms part of her portfolio of compositions for the Contemporary Song Writing Techniques unit she is currently working on. I’m delighted to share such an impressive piece of work with you. Well done Eloise.
Sixth Form Virtual Open Evening
We would usually welcome Year 11 students and their families into school to meet with Mrs Hosking and speak to A level subject teachers. With the current restrictions, this isn’t possible, but we have created an online event where you can hear from Mrs Hosking as well as see videos about the subjects that are on offer here.
You can visit the event here:www.tqacademy.co.uk/sixth-form/
Tassomai
Mr Broome has been able to analyse the results of students’ Quarter 1 test results and, unsurprisingly, there is a strong correlation between the number of questions a student answers and test results. It is clear – hard work leads to better results.
Just on one daythis week our students completed73,484 questions. So far this year there have been over 3 millions questions answered. Our students are so hard working, therefore it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are so successful.
Tassomai Surprise
TA has been awarded a Norweigan Spruce sapling to plant and grow over the coming years. The award was made by Murray Morrison who is the Chief Executive of Tassomai who are the company behind our excellent revision app.
Our students across years 7 to 11 have proved themselves to be the hardest working in country and have together answered over three and a half million revision questions on the app. This is over two million more than any other school in the world.
TA leading the way in literacy
We understand the importance of literacy and we spend a great deal of time with our students to ensure that literacy gaps do not hinder a student’s progress. Our literacy lead, Mrs Morimore, has written a book about the best approaches to improving literacy. It is released next week and I know there have already been a large number of orders from schools around the country.
Literacy
Students have really enjoyed engaging with Power-up this year, our online literacy platform. They work through phonics-based activities to support their progress in reading.
Food Technology
The penultimate week in Food Technology has been a rip-roaring success, with students baking Christmas cookies to decorate and take home to family members. Throughout this term, students have cooked and baked lots of dishes from a healthy vegetarian lasagne to somesticky gooey brownies.
Year 8 Cooking
Year 8 students had great fun today preparing and cooking their healthy vegetable stir fry dishes. Great flavours and increased practical skills. Well done everyone!
A level Product Design
Our A level Product Design students have been undertaking some disassembly work. They have been breaking mobile phones down to their individual components to investigate material usage, environmental impact and design evolution.
A cold start tothe day
